Why Clemens Berger is not yet known, is a mystery to me. For me he is one of the great authors of the present. The Streichelinstitut describes Vienna today. Just the start as the protagonist of the new street and its inhabitants describes - DIVINE!
So: A usually considered to have failed to contemplative student work in progress is dealing with reality (after all, he has reached in his 30s) to have to do something that brings an income. He can not. Except stroke, as his friend says.
And now, he founded the Streichelinstitut.
This to me is the superficial story, rather, she - (someone has "That am I" read by Thomas Glave?) For the wholeness of a person.
Clemens Berger is a voice player. He weaves around his detailed language, a story that is composed of many personal monologues, the character of Sebastian Horvath clearer and more differentiated. A complex man, always torn in Gefühlszwiespälten, developed by a multi-time associate to a non-time partner.
Clemens Berger is working on both the confusion of the economic crisis, and the temptations of love. A contemporary novel, a comprehensive novel. One that might be read a second time. (And maybe even does - pack in your holiday suitcase.)
